About the Program
Music is a worthwhile experience for every child. As active and inquisitive beings, all young children play and need play. This is their "work" and how they learn. This is the focus of Wondermusic.
Wondermusic of Oz offers its original curriculum of music classes specifically designed for children ages eighteen months through third grade. Developed in conjunction with the education departments of Purdue North Central and St. Joseph's College, Wondermusic focuses on developing the natural musical abilities of children through fun with music and movement. The age-appropriate classes stress listening and motor skills while awakening a child's imagination through music, movement, and rhythm.
Classes utilize a number of rhythm instruments, puppets, balls, beanbags, ribbon rings, hoops, scarves and other learning tools. Along with the singing, chanting and dancing featured for all ages, the older children explore classical works and different genres of music, learn about rhythms through movement and games, and develop familiarity with the instruments of the orchestra. As they learn to play their glockenspiels and recorders, they gain an intervalic understanding of melodic notation. Musical concepts are learned and then reinforced with popular games such as Music Symbol Twister and Music Dominoes.
